Review written by Sophie Couard, on June 16, 2016.
Vals-les-Bains is part of the Regional Natural Park of the Monts d'Ardèche and located south-east in the department of Ardeche. The town is known for its thermal spa and welcomes many tourists every year. There are also places and monuments worthy of seeing, such as the Belle Epoque district, the picturesque old town, the Champanhet house and the Calvary.
There is also a very nice park. It was designed in 1867 by the architect Lyons Marc-Antoine Luizet and his son Gabriel, and it features the mysterious intermittent fountain that gushes every 6 hours from 5:30 am. There is also a theatre, a cinema and a casino. This casino is the subject of this review, and you can find out what it has to offer in more detail.
Slot machines, blackjack, roulette and texas hold'em
The Casino in Vals-les-BainsBuilt was built at the end of the 19th, between 1883 and 1898, and it is located on the edge of La Volane, a small Ardèche river. The casino can be accessed by everyone over the age of 18 who is not prohibited from playing casino games and is able to present a valid ID.
The slot machines
The slot machine room is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 am until 2 am, and until 3 am on Friday, Saturday and eves of public holidays. There are 100 devices accepting stakes from 1 cent to €2. Among these are:

Services aside from gambling
Of course, the games at the Casino de Vals-les-Bains are very important. They are the main reason why you are visiting the casino in the first place. Nevertheless, they are not the only service the establishment offers, and you can find out more about the other services in the rest of this review.
A few words to say about the Hotel Helvie are luxury, tranquillity and comfort. The hotel is surrounded by greenery and offers quality services with attention to detail. Each room is beautifully designed (the rooms are standard, superior, deluxe or junior suite) and is equipped with a flat screen satellite TV, free wireless internet access, a mini bar and a safe. The hotel also has:
- air conditioning,
- a swimming pool,
- many beautiful terraces with shade.
You have the following choice for dining:
- a fast food place that is open 7 days from noon till late and offers sandwiches from €5 and set menus from €9.90 (Le 7),
- a traditional restaurant with starters from €5.50, main courses from €12.50 and desserts from €5 (Le Vénétian),
- a gourmet restaurant with one star from the Michelin guide 2015 that is open for lunch and dinner (closed on Sunday evening and Monday all day) with menus from €35 to €89 and lunch menus from €18 to €27 (Le Vivarais).
You can enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere of the lounge bar Le Bellagio and take a break from the games and clear your head. The bar offers a comprehensive selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks.
You can also visit the following places for entertainment:
- a nightclub (Le Privé),
- a cinema with two theatres,
- a theatre.
In short, there is always something to do at the Casino in Vals-les-Bains and the excellent gourmet restaurant also deserves to be discovered. There is also a game selection that will make most players happy.
