Casino review / de Monte-Carlo
Société des Bains de Mer
01 Jan 1863
What a monument! The Monte Carlo Casino is surely one of the most prestigious gambling establishments in the world. It was opened in 1863 by Prince Charles III of Monaco and François Blanc (the founder of the famous Société des Bains de Mer). The legendary Monte Carlo Casino moved into the building a few years later in 1879. It is a beautiful building in Belle Époque style that was designed by architect Charles Garnier who also designed the beautiful adjoining opera house. The complex is surrounded by gardens and has an impressive terrace with a view that stretches over Monaco and the Mediterranean Sea all the way to the tip of Bordighera in Italy.
No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the place. This casino does indeed deserve its excellent reputation. It is simply magnificent, gorgeous... I have no words to describe it! Class, glitz... these words are also not good enough to describe it. It is the archetype of luxurious gambling establishments in Europe. In other words, I totally fell in love with this place, it is like a dream for every player, full of beauty, history and flamboyant decorations.
A great casino
The Monte Carlo Casino is of course a great place, which is a good start. I admit that playing in an elegant atmosphere is pleasing to the eye and it offers a certain charm to the games. But that is not everything that matters! So, what does the casino have to offer? Is it a paradise for the players? This is what you will find out right away.
The slot machines
You can find the largest slot machine selection in Europe. Among them are also exclusive games and brand new slots. You can find :
- many themed games (Le Retour de la Momie, Lord of the Rings, House of the Dead, Alien versus Predator...),
- touch screen video slots (Sphinx 3D, Pirate Battle, Little Green Men...),
- mechanical slot machines,
- electronic roulette,
- video poker.
The table games
The Monte Carlo Casino distinguishes between two types of table games.
On one side are the American games with:
- blackjack 21,
- texas hold'em ultimate poker,
On the other side are the European games with :
- punto banco,
- trente et quarante,
- English roulette,
- French roulette (the specialty of the establishment).
I will conclude this section about the casino of the establishment with a bit of a sore subject: if you want to enter you have to pay an admission fee of €10. You also have to be an adult, that is to say over 18 years, and present a valid identification. The casino is open Sunday to Thursday from 2 pm to 3 am, and on Friday and Saturday from 2 pm to 4 am.
Dining and drinking
In addition to the games room are also restaurants and bars available at the Monte Carlo casino. These venues are perfect for a break between two games, or just to have a good time with friends.
A cosy restaurant
The Salon Rose is located in the heart of the establishment, and it is a haven of comfort for an intimate dining experience. It is a modern boudoir with stunning sea views, and a beautiful place where art and gastronomy merge into one. The menu is inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant is every day from 12 pm to 6 pm and 7 pm to midnight.
Two gourmet restaurants
If you want to enjoy French cuisine without leaving the games room, you can visit the restaurant Les Privés. It offers a beautiful view of Cap-Martin and the sea and has a warm and elegant decor.
For those who prefer a little trip to the past into the Belle Époque era, Le Train Bleu is the place to be. The restaurant has an unusual Orient Express style, and offers a wonderful menu with a large choice of Italian and French dishes. The restaurant is open for dinner every day from 7 pm until the casino closes.
You can find the Bar des Privés in the Salle Médecin, which offers panoramic views in a stylish and elegant atmosphere. It is open every day from 2 pm.
You can also visit the Bar Salle Europe which is located in the oldest of the Monte Carlo Casino lounges. It is also open every day from 2 pm.
If you would like to enjoy a delicious cocktail in privacy you can also visit the stunning mosaic bar of the Salle Blanche, which is open April to October every day from 7 pm.
Inside a small cocoon of luxury
Another advantage is that the location of the Monte-Carlo Casino is very good and convenient, as it is adjacent to the Hotel de Paris at the Casino Square, 1 km from the Monaco Heliport, and 20 km from the airport of Nice along the coast road.
The establishment is in a superb neighbourhood, right in the centre of the most prestigious European principality. The perfect location at the Côté d'Azur at the Mediterranean Sea turned the location into a popular tourist destination that offers the greatest fortunes in the world.
The principality is full of unique places to discover, not just luxury yachts, sumptuous palaces and luxury hotels at the seaside. Even if the establishment does not necessarily offer a lot other things to do besides gambling, there is a lot to do in the city. There is for example, a huge and renowned spa, which is also managed by the Société des Bains de Mer.
In short, the famous Monte Carlo Casino is a unique place! It can be criticized that there is no poker room and that you have to pay admission, but apart from that, it is a great place!
The luxurious atmosphere brings charm to your gaming sessions, and the great game selection also offers tables with craps or trente et quarante, which are still very rare games to find in Europe.
I really love this place, and in my opinion, it is one of the spots that any casino lover should visit at least once in their life!
