Casino review / Holland Amsterdam
01 Dec 1986
The Holland Casino in Amsterdam was located in the Hilton Hotel in the Apollolaan when it first opened its doors in the 1980s. It was moved to its present location on the Max Euwe street in downtown in 2008.
It is a pleasant establishment to gamble, and you can find a great game selection. However, you will need a relatively large budget. In fact, it is unfortunate that the parking is not free (it is even very expensive), and also the prices of the restaurant are too high for what they are serving. On top of that the establishment even charges admission, and you have to pay €5 to enter the games room, which also has the bar and the restaurant.
On the other hand it must be said that the casino has an excellent location. It is located just opposite the Vondel Park, right next to a canal where you can see boats passing by regularly. The establishment is also presented in a nice and modern decor.
After this short introduction, I will now look more at the details of what it has offer in the rest of this review.
A casino with a great game selection
You can find a huge and very versatile game selection in the games room of the Holland Casino in Amsterdam, which is over 8,500 m² large. The casino is open every day from 12 pm to 3 am. In order to be allowed to enter you have to pay an admission of €5. You also have to be an adult if you want to play the games, that is to say you have to be over 18 years and need to present an ID (or a passport for foreigners).
The slot machines
There are over 575 devices in total, starting with bets from 1 cent. Among them are:
- classical slot machines with 3 to 9 mechanical reels,
- modern video slots with 3 to 9 video reels,
- games where you can win a progressive jackpot (among them the famous Mega Million Jackpot that is worth at least 1 million euros),
- video poker,
- video bingo.
The table games
Fans of traditional games can find 55 tables with traditional games. These are :
- American roulette,
- casino 21,
- wheel of fortune,
- multi poker,
- punto banco,
- ultimate texas hold'em.
There is also a small poker room in the casino that features 5 tables. These are available every day from 8 pm to 3 am, and on weekends from 1.30 pm. You can play cash games, as well as tournaments:
- texas hold'em no limit,
- texas hold'em pot limit,
- omaha pot limit.
The establishment also offers a room where you can play bingo, and you can play live games of this popular lottery game.
A few other services aside from gambling
Of course, it is possible to play casino games at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam. As you may have also realised by now, the game selection is very large. However, I must also say that there is not a lot to do in the casino besides gambling. In fact, the establishment only offers a restaurant, a bar and a theatre.
The restaurant is open every day from 5 pm to 2 am, and it is located in the centre of the games room. Even if you want to visit the restaurant you have to be an adult, show your ID and pay the admission of €5. With this I can tell you straight away, the establishment does not intend to attract visitors other than gamblers. The restaurant itself is not really that bad, but it is just a simple restaurant... really very simple. It offers basic dishes at relatively high prices. Nothing outrageous either, and for a menu of €27 or €35 you could expect more. Besides, you can easily find better value for money in other restaurants.
There is also a beautiful bar at the Holland Casino in Amsterdam, which is located upstairs in the games room. The bar is open from opening to closing of the casino, and you can take a break there from playing the games and clear your head.
There is also a theatre in the establishment that regularly hosts different shows. You can visit magic, comedy and variety shows. Dutch and international artists perform regularly on this stage.
So, what can I say in conclusion about the Holland Casino in Amsterdam?
Of course, it is a shame that the establishment does not offer more additional services, and I can also criticise that the prices at the restaurant do not really offer good value for money. However, the main purpose of a visit is still going to be gambling, and with this it is also an expensive visit. With the rather expensive parking and the admission you will just have less money to play the games.
However, I must say that the actual casino does have something. It has a nice and modern decoration, and the game selection is especially nice.
Overall, it is a great place to play casino games in the Netherlands.
