Review written by Sophie Couard, May 25, 2016.
Davos is located in the upper valley of the Landwasser River in eastern Switzerland and reaches an altitude of 1,560 m, making it the highest town in Europe. Logically, it is also a renowned winter sports resort. It has attracted many visitors interested in winter sports since the end of the 19th century. After the strong craze of the 1970s and 1980s, the city has managed to re-assert itself as a major tourist destination, highly praised by the jet-set. Besides its numerous skiing trails, it also has multiple sights, such as the Reformed Church of St. Johann, the Alexander House that was built in 1907, the largest covered ice rink in Europe, and several interesting museums. The town also hosts the World Economic Forum every year, a conference of world leaders and economic elites.
The resort also has another attraction that is interesting for players: a large casino! So, what exactly does it offer? This is the question that I will answer in the rest of this review about it.
A very small casino with a great atmosphere
The Casino in Davos is undoubtedly one of the most elegant complexes in the region. Although it is not particularly large it still offers an interesting game selection and a warm atmosphere inside. The casino can be accessed by anyone of 18 years or older upon presentation of a valid identity document.
The slot machines
The slot machine room is open every day from 2 pm to 2 am, and on weekends in July and August and December to March also until 3 am. There are around 60 devices, among them are:
- games where you can win large progressive jackpots, such as the famous Mystery Jackpot,
- traditional slot machines with mechanical reels,
- latest generation video slots with digital screens,
- video poker in different variants.
The table games
The table games are available every day from 7 pm to 2 am, and on weekends in July and August and December to March until 3 am. you can play the following games at a dozen tables:
- ultimate hold'em poker.
One can also play texas hold'em at the Casino in Davos and poker events are frequently organised there. For more information, please visit the website or contact the casino directly.
Having a drink
Besides playing the games there is not much else to do in the establishment, as there is not even a restaurant or a theatre available, like it is often the case in other large casinos. Fortunately, there is a bar. It is located between the slot machine and the table games area and is the perfect place to enjoy a drink in a relaxing surrounding while still being able to feel the thrilling atmosphere of the casino games. You can take a break from the games in the bar and have a coffee, a glass of wine or a delicious cocktail. There is even a snack menu available if you are a little hungry.
Inside the same building as a high-class hotel
Although there are not many services offered by the Casino in Davos, and you can only find a bar in the casino, not all is lost about this establishment. Fortunately, you will not have to go far to enjoy many other things to do. The casino is located in the same building as a large hotel: the 4-star Hotel Europe Davos. The hotel has around 60 high-class rooms that have a nice atmosphere and are fully equipped.
You can find:
- a gym,
- two restaurants (Scala and Au Premier),
- a bar (Cava Club),
- a piano bar (Tonic),
- a night club (Cabana Club).
In short, the Casino in Davos is not the largest or most impressive of the casinos in Switzerland, but it has an atmosphere of its own and you can have a great time there playing some of the greatest casino classics.
