Casino review / Chaudfontaine
01 Jan 1939
The town of Chaudfontaine is located in Belgium, in the French-speaking of Wallonia in the province of Liège. As its name suggest, the town has several thermal hot springs. They are also the only ones in the country.
The town attracts many spa guests every year who are looking for relaxation and wellness. Even the famous poet Victor Hugo went there and dubbed the city: the violet of thermal spas.
Like so many other spa villages, the town also has a casino, the Grand Casino in Chaudfontaine Liège. But what exactly can you find there? Well, this is what you will find out in the rest of this review about the establishment.
Slot machines, video poker, roulette and blackjack
The resort is located only 10 minutes from Liège, near the Ardennes, and it is the casino that takes my interest in this part of the review. Firstly, it offers a great and thrilling atmosphere, but the interior design is not very special. It is a casino like thousands of other casinos, although it still has something about it.
The slot machines
Slot machine fans will be happy to hear that the casino has around 130 devices with bets starting from 1 cent. Among them are:
- traditional slot machines with 3 mechanical reels,
- modern video slot machines,
- video poker games in different variants,
- games with progressive jackpots.
For example, you can find some of these popular games there:
- Choy Sun Doa,
- Royal Red Deluxe,
The slot machines are accessible 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Those who prefer traditional games can find a few classic table games with:
The table games are available every day from 3 pm to 5.30 am.
Before ending this section about the casino, I would like to mention that there is no poker room. However, the establishment regularly organises texas hold'em tournaments. You can visit the website for more information.
I would also like to mention that access to the games room is reserved exclusively for adults (for everyone aged over 21 years, as this is the law in Belgium), and only if they are not prohibited from gambling. It is mandatory to present a valid ID (identity card, driving license or passport).
The reason to visit the Grand Casino in Chaudfontaine Liège are of course mainly the slot machines and table games. However, you obviously cannot play all day and night without taking a break and clearing your head, and to do this it is important that the casino has a bar or a restaurant as well. Fortunately you can find these additional services in this casino too.
The casino bar is located in the heart of slot machines room, and it is open all week long, 24 hours a day. You can therefore enjoy a very nice atmosphere and a good cocktail or glass of wine at any time. There are also other types of alcoholic or non-alcoholic hot and cold beverages and a menu offering small snacks.
Those who wish to eat a larger dish can visit the restaurant La Martingale which offers a cuisine with popular dishes that are leaning towards tradition with a touch of French cuisine. The decoration in the restaurant is trendy, and it is open every day from 6 pm to 11 pm, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. For example, you can enjoy:
- smoked salmon, cheese fondue or croquettes with shrimps as starters,
- different salads, meats or fish as main courses,
- Madagascar vanilla crème brûlée, île flottante with custard and caramel or fruit parfait for desserts.
There is also the set Menu « Clin d'œil » :
- starter + main + dessert for €38,
- starter + main for €30,
- main + dessert for €25.
Unfortunately, the complex does not have a hotel. If you want to stay close to the casino you have to find another place to stay at. Fortunately, there are many hotels available, such as:
- the Park Inn by Radisson Liege Airport which is 14 km away and starts from €93.47,
- the Univers Hôtel & Brasserie which is 7 km away and starts from €65,
- the Pentahotel Liège which is 8.3 km away and starts from €129,
- the Hôtel Husa de la Couronne de Liège which is 6.9 km away and starts from €69.
In conclusion, I can say that the Grand Casino in Chaudfontaine Liège is not a very large complex that is worth visiting. It is a rather small casino. But the establishment has its own charm, as it is still a nice property that offers everything needed for an enjoyable evening with the games. What more would you need?
