The UK Gambling Commission recommends a drastic reduction in limits on slot machines
To combat the issue of gambling addiction, the UK Gambling Commission has issued a recommendation to the government. The regulator wants to reduce the amount that can be bet on a slot game, in a single bet, to a maximum of £30.
£100 every 20 seconds
Currently, the British can bet up to £100 every 20 seconds in slot machines. These are not the slots that can be found in land-based casinos, but those found in casinos, pubs, and shops.
The announcement in October 2017
Last October, the British government announced that this amount should be reduced. To aid in the determination of the new amount, the government has turned to various organizations, including the UK Gambling Commission, which has now published its recommendation.
The government's final decision is now expected from all players in the UK gambling industry employing about 53,000 people in the country, as slot machines make up a very important part of the revenue. In addition, it is also an important decision to combat the gambling addiction of which about 430,000 people in the UK are affected.
The limitation of the stakes can therefore have many consequences. When exactly the decision will be made is not yet clear, so we still have to be patient.
