Online Gambing to be restricted in Sweden

By Sophie Couard
The Spelinspektionen has just proposed stricter regulation of online gambling advertising in Sweden.

With Spain curtailing advertising for online casinos, Sweden is now considering regulating gambling advertising as well. The Swedish regulatory authority Spelinspektionen is currently campaigning for stricter regulation of gambling advertising in the country.

Framework not yet defined

Although the Swedish regulatory authority Spelinspektionen has proposed to restrict the advertising of online gambling, there are still no exact guidelines as to the duration of advertising, quantity or type.

Intended sanctions

No detailed framework for the amount or duration of advertising has yet been defined.

If this proposal is implemented, operators violating these rules could face an official warning, a fine or, in extreme cases, withdrawal of their gambling license.

Will some operators in Sweden soon suffer the same fate as operators like Neptune Entertainment and Triton Gaming, whose license were withdrawn by the MGA in Malta? Only time will tell.
