Netherland starts in online gambling
The Dutch Senate voted on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019, on new legislation to liberalize online gambling.
After Sweden began regulating its online gambling market on January 1st, 2019, it is now the Netherlands that will begin regulating its market. This is because lawmakers have just voted to liberalize the market and open it up to foreign companies which can offer their services to resident players.
300 interested companies
On Tuesday, February 19th, 2019, the Dutch Senate voted on new laws concerning the liberalization of online gambling, which should allow foreign and Dutch operators to apply for a license so that they can offer the games legally in the country. Some 300 companies have expressed an interest in legal online gambling in the Netherlands, and it is estimated that about 50 will submit a formal application.
Currently only one licensed operator
It is expected that about 50 companies will submit a formal application for a license next year.
At the moment, Holland Casino Group is the only company legally permitted to offer gambling in the country. However, this has not stopped foreign companies from offering their games to Dutch players, which has led to many problems in the past.
