The UK Gambling Comission penalized LeoVegas

By Sophie Couard

LeoVegas kept the money from 11,205 accounts that had been closed by players.

When playing at an online casino you should be careful to play only in a licensed casino. The license is issued by a regulatory body and licensees must abide by specific rules and regulations that will provide players with security in the event of problems. LeoVegas Casino has unfortunately fallen onto the radar of regulators in a bad way.

The details

Last September, the UK Gambling Commission imposed a fine of £7.8 million on 888 Holdings for failing to adequately protect its vulnerable players. This time, the UK agency punished the LeoVegas Online Casino, which withheld the money from 11,205 player accounts that had been closed by players. Among other things, it was also criticized because:

  • 1,894 players continued to receive advertising messages despite the self-exclusion from gambling,
  • 413 players were able to reopen their closed accounts without applying the 24-hour cooling off period.
  • It was responsible for making 41 misleading advertisements

Following this case, online casino LeoVegas was fined £600,000. The online casino has confirmed allegations of technical errors and has already repaid £14,000 of the required amounts. Which online casino will be the next victim of the UK Gambling Commission? Only time will tell.
