25 illegal gambling websites blocked in Denmark

The Danish regulator has ordered Internet service providers to block 25 illegal gambling websites.

Last month the Swedish regulator was in our news over the fining of two operators and this month it is the Danish regulator's turn. Spillemyndigheden has ordered the country's Internet service providers to block 25 online gambling websites that are not licensed to offer their services in Denmark.

10 online casinos and 15 sportsbook providers blocked

This action taken by the regulator balances the need to protect players with the need to protect legitimate gambling operators who have a license from the Danish regulatory authority. The regulator's blocking order has been confirmed by the Copenhagen City Court and Internet service providers are now being forced to block 10 online casinos and 15 sports bookmakers, most of which operate under license from Curacao.

Fight against illegal gambling

This order has been confirmed by the Municipal Court of Copenhagen and affects ten online casinos and 15 sports bookmakers.

This is the second time Spillemyndigheden has taken such steps. In February 2018, it had already instructed the blocking of six online gambling websites. However, the regulator has now developed a new strategy to identify problem gambling providers and announced that it will continue its efforts to combat illegal gambling in the future.

We will no doubt hear from the Danish regulator Spillemyndigheden again in the future.
