New Consultation on Ad restrictions in Belgium

By Sophie Couard
The BGC is looking for feedback from operators relating to effects of the June 1st advertising restrictions.

Back in June, the BGC tightened rules on gambling advertising during television broadcasts. Today, they've made our blog once again with the announcement that they will be launching a consultation process on the advertising restrictions that had gone into effect. The function of this new consultation on ad restrictions is to understand the impact that the new controls have had on operators.

June 1st restrictions of Online Gambling Advertisements

On June 1st, 2019, online casinos were restricted from broadcasting online casino and gambling advertisements which were part of 2018 reforms. Advertising will only be allowed by F1 + licenses after 8:00 PM. Furthermore, athletes and celebrities are prohibited from being used to promote casinos. Spending by players is capped at €500/week and gambling promotions within 15 minutes before and after the program are banned.

For the new consultation on ad restrictions, the BGC has set a deadline of October 4th, 2019 for operators to submit their suggestions and comments to the subcommittee. The aim of this is to understand better the impact that the restrictions have had on these operators.
