Review written by Sophie Couard, June 7 2016.
Tarragona is a city located around 100 km from Barcelona. It has a mild and warm climate. The pleasant conditions attract thousands of tourists from around the world every year who come to enjoy the long sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. There are also important archaeological heritage sites showing the ancient medieval past of the city.
The Casino of Tarragona is located just a few metres away from the magnificent Roman amphitheatre. The casino also close to the Mediterranean Sea and offers many attractions that I will explain more in the few paragraphs below.
A relatively large game selection with very few traditional games
When you want to enter the games room of the establishment, you will have to pay an admission of €4.50 and present a valid identity card, a driving license or passport. If you are a citizen of a country that is not part of the European Union, you will have to present a valid passport. Also keep in mind that access is only made available to adults over the age of 18.
The slot machines
The slot machines are available Sunday to Thursday from 11 am to 4 am, and until 5 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays. You can find a large selection of devices with:
- games with progressive jackpots,
- traditional mechanical slot machines,
- latest generation video slot machines with video reels,
- video poker,
- video keno,
- video bingo,
- multi-game devices,
- an electronic roulette,
- an electronic blackjack,
- an electronic ultimate texas hold'em poker.
The table games
Fans of traditional table games can play American roulette from €2.50 minimum stake from Sunday to Thursday from 8 pm to 4 am, and until 5 am on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays. The establishment offers different tables with this roulette variant.
The establishment also has a poker room. The room is open every day Sunday to Thursday from 8 pm to 3.30 am, and on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays until 4.30 am in the morning. You can play texas hold'em no limit and omaha :
- in tournaments,
- in cash games.
You can also find different terminals allowing you to place bets on a large selection of sporting events, as well as horse or greyhound races. These are located in the four corners of the games room. You can also follow the competitions on giant screens.
Dining, drinking and entertainment
Although it is probably the large games room that is the main attraction of the Casino in Tarragona for us players, it is not the only service of the establishment. In fact, the complex also offers various facilities for dining, drinking and entertainment. These are ideal for relaxing, clearing your head and taking a break between the games.
The two bars are open at the same times as the casino, Sundays to Thursdays from 11 am to 4 am and until 5 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays.
The T-Sports Bar is the place to be for sports fans who want to bet on the largest events or see major competitions while enjoying a drink. You can also have breakfast, lunch and dinner there, or simply enjoy a nice drink on a spectacular wooden terrace with a magnificent view of the nearby Roman amphitheatre.
The T-Space Bar allows you to enjoy a more musical atmosphere where you can dance and party, and also enjoy a large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks. I can definitely recommend some of the cocktails there, and a special mention goes out to the absolutely delicious Gin tonic, which is the specialty of the establishment!
The Diana restaurant has a modern, attractive and welcoming atmosphere and is the ideal place for a magical evening that combines gastronomy with recreational pleasures. You can find a large selection of tapas or different burgers and a nice wine list on the menu that is also regularly updated. You can also find a new set menu every week, which comes at a price of €25 and includes a starter, main course, dessert, coffee and drink.
The complex regularly hosts events, and you can for example:
- visit the theatre,
- participate in tea dances,
- enjoy lively evening events with famous DJs.
Unfortunately, the establishment does not offer accommodation. If you want to stay in the city you will have to look somewhere else. Fortunately, there are many hotels around the casino, such as:
- the Hotel Best Da Vinci Royal which is 10 km away and costs from €47.30 per night,
- the Nuria which is less than 2 km away and costs from €48 per night,
- the Astari which is 1 km away and costs from €59 per night,
- the Hotel Centre Reux which is 13 km away and costs from €65 per night.
Overall, the Casino in Tarragona is a very nice establishment. Especially the game selection will surely keep your attention. Although there are not many traditional games available, just the American roulette, you can find several of electronic table games, a lively poker room and terminals for sports betting. In my opinion, this is a great selection!
