Casino review / di Sanremo
01 Jan 1970
The Casino in Sanremo is the oldest gambling establishment in Italy, and one of the most iconic. It is located at the Riviera Ligure, in the province of Imperia, just a few kilometres away from the French border. The Casino in Sanremo takes you into the centre of the Belle Époque, as it was built in Art Nouveau style by French architect Eugene Ferret. The casino opened its doors for the first time on January 12, 1905.
It is also the only complex of its kind left that was open during the gambling ban imposed by Mussolini in 1924, but it was closed on the 10th of June 1940, following the German occupation. It resumed its operations seven months after the end of World war II.
So, here is a legendary casino that we will explore more now in this review.
A classy casino
The Casino in Sanremo has a luxurious and historic decor. The games room is over 2,500 m² large and was recently renovated. There are multiple themed rooms and a charming and elegant atmosphere. The casino is open to anyone over 18, upon presentation of a valid identity card, driving license or passport.
The slot machines
The slot machines are available from Sunday to Thursday from 10 am to 2.30 am, and on Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 3.30 am. There are around 500 machines from 1 cent to €2.50. Among them are:
- over 150 mechanical slot machines,
- over 215 video slot machines,
- 50 video poker games,
- some video keno,
- 50 slot machines with multiple games,
- one device with virtual horse racing with 12 seats,
- an electronic roulette.
The table games
The table games are available Sunday to Thursday from 2.30 pm to 2.30 am, and on Friday and Saturday from 3 pm to 3.30 am. There are 40 tables with:
- French roulette,
- chemin de fer,
- fair roulette,
- punto banco 2000.
The Sala Liberty hosts the American games, and you can also play Texas Hold'em poker there. You can participate in:
- cash games,
- tournaments, when at least 10 players are available.
A hot spot for gastronomy and culture
The Casino in Sanremo owes much of its fame to the prestigious game rooms, but the complex is also known for fantastic cuisine and artistic genius.
Two restaurants and three bars
The Roof Garden restaurant is open from 8.30 pm to midnight and as the name suggests, it is located at the terrace on the roof of the casino. It has a bar and piano shows, as well as a fine selection of dishes on the menu that celebrate the Mediterranean and world cuisine.
The Food Corner Gio Ponti restaurant is open from 7.30 pm to 1.30 am, and it is located directly in the games room. There you can take a break and enjoy a good selection of gourmet fast food specialties. You can also get a set menu with a main course, dessert and drink for €25.
There are also three bars in the gaming rooms and they are open the same time that the respective room is open (the common room, private dining room and the slot machine room). There you can take a break between the games and enjoy a drink.
A prestigious theatre
The Casino in Sanremo also has one of the finest theatres at the Italian Riviera. It regularly hosts concerts, theatre plays, and literary and gastronomic events. For example, the famous Italian music festival Festival della canzone Italiana is held here every year in March.
Unfortunately, the complex does not have hotel. However, you can find many hotels in the nearby area. They are mixed and offer accommodation for everyone:
- Hotel Europa San Remo **** starting from €92 per night,
- Hotel de Paris Sanremo **** starting from €126 per night,
- Royal Hotel San Remo ***** starting from €213 per night.
A perfect location
The perfect location of the Casino in Sanremo in heart of downtown, right next to the sea, also allows you to enjoy the beautiful Italian city which is also called the city of flowers. It is a real floral paradise with beautiful monuments. Besides the beautiful square, the charming harbour and the famous casino, the charm of the city can also be enjoyed in the many bars, restaurants and pizzerias.
In conclusion, I can say that the Casino in Sanremo is a prestigious gambling establishment with a well-deserved excellent reputation. The different game rooms offer a diverse game selection and a very nice high-class atmosphere. The complex also has a nice theatre and excellent restaurants. It is a place that definitely deserves to be discovered!
