Casino review / Lugano
29 Nov 2002
Lugano is located close to the border of Italy in Switzerland. The city is next to the Lake Lugano and surrounded by mountains, the largest two being the Monte San Salvatore and the Monte Bre. The beautiful surroundings are part of what makes the city so famous with tourists, who can also enjoy a large array of leisure activities. The city is also the third largest financial centre in the country. In short, there is a lot to see and do in this important city!
The city also has a large gambling establishment, and the Casino in Lugano offers many attractions that I will talk about more in the rest of this review about it.
Three floors with casino games
The games room of the Casino in Lugano is huge and stretches over three levels.
The ground floor has a non-smoking games room with two areas: one for the slot machines and the other for the traditional table games. You can also find the elegant Laurent Perrier Champagne bar in the centre of the games room. There is also an area for smokers that has slot machines, as well as huge screens showing different sports events.
The first floor also has an area with slot machines, a bar, the famous Elementi restaurant and a non-smokers terrace.
The second floor has the poker room and the theatre.
The slot machines
The slot machines are available Sunday to Thursday from noon until 4 am, and until 5 am on weekends. You can find 350 devices from 0.01 CHF to 100 CHF. Among them are:
- mechanical slot machines,
- video slots,
- video poker,
- games with progressive jackpots.
The table games
If you prefer traditional games you can enjoy 20 tables that are available Monday and Tuesday from 8 pm to 4am, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm to 4 am, and on Friday and Saturday from 2 pm to 5 am. You can play the following games:
- punto banco,
- ultimate texas hold'em poker.
There is also a poker room on the second floor, and you can play texas hold'em or omaha poker in tournaments and cash games.
To conclude the section about the casino, I would like to mention that the games in the establishment can only be accessed by adults over the age of 18, and only if they are not prohibited from gambling. It is also necessary to present a valid ID upon entering.
Taking a break between the games
I have already briefly mentioned it in the previous section about the casino, and when considering how large the casino is, it is no surprise that the establishment does not only offer games, but also other services aside from gambling. Although the casino is still all about gambling, and the other services are not the main attraction, the establishment also offers you the option to clear your head between the games, and to take a break.
There is a bar on the ground floor and on the first floor, and one of the is the famous Laurent Perrier Champagne Bar. The bars are open at the same time as the casino, Sunday to Thursday from noon until 4 am, and until 5 am on weekends, and you can enjoy cocktails, a good glass of wine, a pint of beer or many other drinks. You can also indulge in many different sweet or savoury snacks.
The Elementi restaurant is located on the second floor and can accommodate up to 50 guests. The restaurant is open every day until 1am. You can find different Mediterranean dishes with new exotic flavours by Chef Moreno Manzini. For example, you can choose:
- beef tartare, different salads, soups or wok vegetables with shrimp in sweet and sour sauce as starters,
- different risotto or pasta main courses,
- monkfish with clams or shrimp tempura with oriental sauce as a fish main courses,
- beef fillet, foie gras, Suprême de Bresse chicken stuffed with mushrooms as meat main courses,
- chocolat cake, crème Catalan or a millefeuille of chestnuts and red fruit as desserts.
The restaurant also has a good selection of local, Italian and international wines.
Unfortunately, the Casino in Lugano does not offer any accommodation. If you are staying in the area you will have to look elsewhere for a place to sleep. Fortunately, there are many hotels in the city, such as
- the Grand Hôtel Villa Costagnola which is 1.2 km away and prices start from 330 CHF,
- the Hôtel Splendide Royal which is 1.2 km away and prices start from 235 CHF,
- the Kurhaus Cademario Hotel & Spa which is 5.3 km away and prices start from 160 CHF,
- the Lugano Dante Center Swiss Quality Hotel which is 500 m away and prices start from 177 CHF.
The Casino in Lugano is one of Switzerland's most prestigious gambling establishments, and when you are there you will understand why that is. Although the establishment does not offer many other things to do besides gambling, it is mostly the casino that attracts the players, and you can enjoy a great game selection, even in a room for smokers. Overall, the casino and the game selection are very good!
