Review written by Sophie Couard, on August 24, 2016.
Alice Springs is located in the Northern Territory of Australia, in the outback, right in the middle of the desert, 1,500 km from Darwin and 1,532 km from Adelaide. It is the only important city in a radius of a thousand kilometres. This means that you can find it on every map of the country and every world map, which is a little disproportionate considering its actual size. In fact, it does not even have 30,000 inhabitants.
Alice Springs is interesting for tourists, as it is the gateway to discover the Red Centre Way, Uluru-Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon, Simpson Desert and Devils Marbles. The city also has a casino, and you can find out more about it in the rest of this review.
A very nice casino
The Lasseters Casino in Alice Springs has a slightly ochre atmosphere, matching perfectly with the surrounding landscapes. The casino has a modern and beautiful design and is accessible to anyone aged 18 or older. It is necessary to verify your age before entering, which means that you will need to present a valid identification at the entrance.
The slot machines
The slot machines are available every day from 9 am to 4 am, and you can play at a large selection of over 330 devices accepting denominations from 1 cent to $1. You are spoilt for choice and can play these types of games:
- games where you can win a progressive jackpot,
- traditional slot machines with mechanical reels,
- modern video slot machines with digital screens,
- video poker.
The table games
The table games are open Sunday to Thursday from 3 pm to 3 am, and Friday and Saturday also from 3 pm to 4 am. You can enjoy these traditional games at many tables:
- American roulette,
- three card poker,
- Caribbean stud,
- progressive texas hold'em,
Fans of texas hold'em and omaha poker will be happy to hear that there is also a poker room available in the establishment, and it is open Sunday to Thursday from 3 pm to 3 am, and Friday and Saturday also from 3 pm to 4 am. You can play against other players in cash games or tournaments.
Race & sports betting and keno areas
The Lasseters Casino in Alice Springs definitely makes many players happy, as you can also play keno with 80 balls and indulge in sports betting. You can place bets on national and international events at the betting terminals. There are also over twenty screens where you can follow these competitions.
A hotel, restaurants and bars
As the city of Alice Springs is somewhat lost in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of a desert and over a thousand kilometres from civilization, it is only logical that the casino does not just offer games. In order to meet the demands of the visitors, the establishment also has a hotel, restaurants and bars. You can find out more about these other facilities in the next paragraphs.
Those wishing to stay in the area for several days can enjoy a beautiful 4.5-star hotel with 205 rooms with private balconies overlooking the banks of the Tood River, the MacDonnel Ranges or the Alice Springs Golf Course. The hotel also features:
- a nice heated swimming pool,
- a spa,
- a health club.
You can visit three different restaurants if you want to enjoy a nice meal. These are:
- The Goat and Bucket which is more of a pub with beers, sausages and chicken wings,
- the Tali that offers an original menu featuring a mix of modern Australian dishes and outback specialties,
- the Juicy Rump which is a grill-restaurant with a large covered terrace offering panoramic views of the MacDonnell Ranges.
You can enjoy a refreshment in three different bars:
- the Casbah which is right in the centre of the casino,
- the Tempo that has a lounge atmosphere,
- the Splash Poolside Cafe which is next to the swimming pool.
In short, the Lasseters Casino in Alice Springs is undoubtedly a fantastic casino. The rather large game selection and the beautiful design creates the perfect atmosphere to play games in.
