Casino review / La Medina Hammamet
01 Apr 2004
Hammamet has been a small village since ancient times, and it was somewhat lost in the orchards on the edges of a serene sea - until very recently. A Romanian millionaire helped to pull the city out of anonymity and become the most popular resort in all of Tunisia, and one of the most visited towns at the shores of the Mediterranean sea. Thousands of tourists from around the world visit every year to enjoy the infinitely long golden beaches.
The city is located 60 km south of the capital Tunis and has luxurious hotels, countless nightclubs, great restaurants and a wonderful marina: Yasmine Hammamet. It is spread over 278 ha with a 4 km long waterfront. It features many luxurious hotels, a marina, a medina, souks, thalassotherapy centres, shopping centres, two golf courses, and of course, also a casino! The Casino La Medina in Hammamet is the main focus in this review, and I will give more details about the establishment in the following paragraphs.
A private and classy atmosphere in the casino
The casino can accommodate 800 people simultaneously and offers a perfect combination of comfort and safety on an area of over 2,000 m². The casino is open in winter from 8 pm to 4 am, and in summer from 5 pm to 5 am. If you wish to access the casino you will need to be over 18 years, and also present a valid foreign identity card or passport (driving licenses are not accepted). Tunisians are not allowed to enter the casino and play there (even if they reside outside their home country).
The slot machines
The ultramodern installations at the Casino La Médina in Hammamet allow you to enjoy 130 slots terminals with:

You can also find different traditional table games. Fans of these games will be happy to hear that there are 9 tables with the following games:
Fans of texas hold'em, will also be happy to hear that there is a poker room where this game variant is played. The room features 4 tables, and you can participate in:
Dining and drinking
Of course, the Casino La Medina in Hammamet has a nice casino area for the players, but it is also important to take a break between the games and clear your head. The establishment has also taken care of this, and offers you a place for lunch or dinner and another one where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail.
A Lebanese restaurant
The El Kalaa restaurant is located near the casino, and welcomes you in a pleasant atmosphere. There are many different specialties of Lebanese cuisine on the menu, such as mezze, meatballs and fragranced dishes.
You can find an American bar inside the games room and take a nice break there. The bar offers a large selection of hot and cold drinks with or without alcohol. There is also a food menu available offering smaller snacks.
In the centre of a prestigious hotel
The Casino La Medina was opened in April 2004. It was built in the complex La Médina Méditerranea in Yasmine Hammamet that has an excellent reputation for professional staff and outstanding service. This establishment also offers many additional services that I will detail more below.
You have four hotels available for accommodation, such as:
the Hotel Diar Lemdia that has 4 stars,
the Hotel Solaria & Thalasso that has 5 stars,
the Hotel Belisaire & Thalasso that has 5 stars,
the Hotel Résidence La Paix that has 3 stars.
In short, there is something for everyone and for every budget.
Bars and restaurants
You can have a drink at the following Cafés:
the Café of Sasfsat,
the Café Sidi Boussaid,
the Café Les Arcades,
the Bar Bistro,
the Café Foundouk,
the Café Oum Khalthoum,
the Café des Nattes,
the Café Lemdina.
You can visit the following restaurants for dining :
the Caicco Le Romain,
the Restaurant Shéhérazade,
the Restaurant Tunisien,
the Fast Food.
Many other services
You can also enjoy many other activities that will make your stay exceptional. Among them are:
many shopping centres, souks, fondouks and caravanserais,
a natural history and religion museum,
the reconstruction of a palace from 1001 Nights,
an attraction about the Barbarossa brothers,
a cinema show (Tunisia Odysée) about the 3,000 years old history of Tunisia,
an amusement park (Carthage Lande),
In short, the Casino La Medina in Hammamet is located in a unique complex that offers everything that you might be looking for to have a good and relaxing time. This place is definitely worth a visit, and it has become a popular destination for a pleasant and exciting holiday.
But is the casino also worth it? It is not very large and the offered games are relatively conventional, however, the cosy and friendly atmosphere should appeal to any player. Although you might expect a grander casino, considering the size of the complex, you will probably have a very good time there!
