Casino review / Barrière de Royan
01 Jan 1930
Royan is a popular resort in the south-west of France. It is ideally located on the Côte de Beauté, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, and the town attracts thousands of tourists every year thanks to nice sandy beaches and a warm summer climate. You can also enjoy an interesting architectural heritage of the 1950s and villas of the Belle Époque.
If you are a player you will probably also be interested in the fantastic casino. The casino has a lot to offer if you are visiting Royan. But what exactly does the Barrière Casino in Royan offer? This is the question that I will answer in the following review about it.
A varied game selection
The casino of the Barrière group has a relatively standard design, but it is nevertheless very elegant. As it is the law in France, the casino is only available to persons over the age of 18 years, and only if they are not prohibited from gambling. You will also have to present a valid identification (identity card, driver's license or passport).
The slot machines
The slot machines room is open Sunday to Thursday from 9 am until 3 am and until 4 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays. The casino has the largest selection of slots in the Charente-Maritime region and you can find 180 devices with denominations ranging from 1 cent up to €2 per game. You can try your luck at:
- games with progressive jackpots,
- traditional slot machines with mechanical reels,
- latest generation video slots,
- video poker in different variants.
The table games
The room with the table games has a warm and friendly atmosphere, and you can enjoy the thrills and elegance of the traditional games every day from 8.30 pm to 3 am and until 4 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays. You can play:
- English roulette.
There is also a poker room in the establishment. You can play texas hold'em in cash games or tournaments. The tables are located in the traditional games room, and they are available at the same times as the traditional games every day from 8.30 pm to 3 am and until 4 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays.
Dining, drinking and entertainment
There are many other things to do at the Barrière Casino in Royan and the establishment offers more than just casino games. You can find different areas where you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine or some food between the games. It is also possible to see a show.
The Atlantic Café is located close to the slot machines hall and is overlooking the sea. The bar is open the same times as the establishment. You can enjoy sitting on the nice and pleasant terrace while having a drink from a varied menu. There are many hot and cold drinks with or without alcohol and a good selection of premium spirits. It is even possible to order some sweet or savoury snacks.
The Salon des Jeux is located in the heart of the traditional games room and invites you to enjoy a drink or cocktail in the electric atmosphere of the roulette or blackjack tables. This bar is open every day from 8 pm to 3 am and until 4 am on Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays.
If you like to party there is also a trendy bar with a resident DJ. The Xobam' is open Fridays, Saturdays and the eves of public holidays from 11.30 pm to 5 am.
You can visit the Atlantic Restaurant for lunch or dinner and enjoy a nice view overlooking the sea. The restaurant offers an authentic cuisine in a friendly atmosphere, and it is open every day from 12 pm to 2 pm and from 7 pm to 10 pm. For example, you can find the following items on the menu:
- different salads,
- a whole roasted lobster,
- beet tartare.
You can also dine in the atmosphere of the casino at the restaurant in the traditional games room. It is open every evening from 8 pm to 10 pm. You have a choice between a menu highlighting the cuisine of the Atlantic coast, or dishes of the day that change throughout the season.
There is also a theatre at the Barrière Casino in Royan where you can relax and have fun. It offers an interesting program that mainly features:
- comedy shows.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to stay overnight at the establishment, but as Royan is such a touristy destination, it is not really a problem to find accommodation. There are many hotels in the town, some of these are near the casino:
- the Pavillon Bleu starting from €56 per night,
- the Hôtel Restaurant Le Bel'm starting from €73 per night,
- the Hôtel Cordouan starting from €145 per night.
I must say that the Barrière Casino in Royan is a very nice establishment and great for gambling. The bars and restaurants are also worth visiting, and the game selection is varied enough to satisfy most players.
