Casino review / Barrière de La Baule
01 Jan 1904
Despite many modern buildings facing the sea, La Baule is a very pretty posh and bourgeois seaside resort. It also has one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, and a very nice casino, which I will talk about more in this review below.
200 slot machines, roulette, blackjack and boule, but no poker
Obviously, what attracts me most to this establishment that is part of the Barrière group is primarily the games. Here I will give more details about the game selection that is available at the casino.
The slot machines
You can find 200 slot machines in the casino that are available 7 days a week. The room is open on weekdays from 10 am to 3 am, and from 10 am to 4 am on Friday, Saturday and eves of public holidays. The selection is very large and includes:
- mechanical slot machines and video slots from 1 cent to €5,
- video poker machines starting from 5 cent,
- 15 latest generation slot machines,
- new multi-game machines,
- electronic English roulette from €0.50 per game.
In short, there is something for every taste.
Those who feel nostalgic should also know that many of the slots are mechanical, unlike in most other casinos in France, that are increasingly focused on video slots.
The table games
The room with the table games is open from 9 pm to 3 am on weekdays, and until 4 am on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays. You can try our luck at:
- 2 tables with English roulette,
- 4 tables with blackjack,
- 1 table boule 2000.
This is a fine choice of traditional games, even though it is a shame that there is no poker table. This means that it is impossible to play Texas Hold'em or Omaha, and this might make some fans a little unhappy.
At the end of the review about the game selection of the Casino Barrière in La Baule, I would like to mention that game rooms are only accessible to persons over 18 upon presentation of a valid ID.
A bar and a restaurant
Playing and betting money is great, and it is also the main reason to visit such an establishment, but also being able to eat and drink will make the experience all the better. This is why the Casino Barrière in La Baule also offers a bar and a restaurant.
The B' Lounge
The B' Lounge welcomes you in a chic and modern decor, and you can relax or party with friends. You can really enjoy the spirit of La Baule with a drink by the beach. The cocktails are excellent!
In case you get hungry it is also possible to enjoy a snack at any time at the bar, and it offers sandwiches, bruschetta and gourmet coffees. A small drawback is that the service is generally a little slow. A big positive point is however, that breakfast is offered each morning between 10 am and 11.30 am, which is great fun!
The Café Barrière
The small restaurant Café Barrière offers affordable dishes in a beautiful atmosphere next to the sea. You can enjoy a two-piece set menu (starter + main course or main course + dessert) for €17, or a triple-piece set menu (starter + main course + dessert) for €20, which is a very good offer.
However, although the bread is divine and mussels and chips are great, the main courses do not always convince with a high quality of the restaurant. Some of the more expensive dishes, such as lobster or Saint-Jacques can be very disappointing. Nevertheless, the restaurant is still a nice place with a friendly atmosphere.
The establishment does not have a theatre or a hotel. However, the Barrière group offers luxury accommodation at the Royal Thalasso Barrière and the Hermitage, two 4-star hotels with room prices starting from €115 a night off season. The Castel Marie Louise is a little more expensive, but it is one of the most beautiful Bauloise mansions. If you do not wish to spend that much money, I suggest you try the Ty Gwenn, a charming 2-star hotel, located only 150 m away from the beach.
A classy and relaxed atmosphere
You can play a lot of games at the . You can also enjoy excellent cocktails, and dining is not too bad either. This is all good, but some of you are probably wondering about the general atmosphere in the establishment. This is precisely the subject I am about to address now.
Firstly, it should be noted that the establishment was recently renovated, and the decor is therefore very modern, bright and overall very nice. Additionally, it is also at a great location and very close to the sea. However, some people might find it a little too locked in for their taste. Even with its terrace, it is not very open to the outside, and some people might not like this.
I would like to say a thanks to the staff for their kindness and friendly welcome they give their customers. From the security officers to the dealers and chefs, everyone is cheerful and very friendly. They are always listening to their customers, and they take their time to properly explain the games to beginners. In short, novices are unlikely to be lost, which is always nice.
Similarly, I also greatly enjoyed the overall cleanliness in this classy casino. The high standards fit perfectly into the bourgeois surroundings and upscale flair of La Baule. However, the establishment is not only for the elite. The atmosphere is always relaxed and has a younger clientele than in many other casinos in France. The place is quiet and cosy. Relaxation and entertainment are waiting for you in a friendly atmosphere.
The downside: some people might find the establishment not classy enough, and you can see customers in shorts. I even saw a woman lying on her chair with her legs in the air. In short, sometimes it can be a little too sloppy and casual.
I will finish with another small negative point. There are always a lot of people in the summer, and the casino is a victim of its success. It is sometimes difficult to make your way through the players to the games. During peak times, it is almost impossible to access the slot machines. The space really seems too small. But this is not the case during the off season.
In front of one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe
We have given you a small tour around the establishment in this rather positive review. It is located in front of one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, at number 24 Esplanade Lucien Barrière in La Baule.
You can get there:
- by car, 80 km from Nantes, 78 km from Vannes, 140 km from Rennes and 450 km from Paris,
- by train via the train station of La Baule Escoublac, which is 5 minutes away,
- by plane via the international airport of Nantes-Atlantique, which is 55 minutes away, or the aerodrome of La Baule Escoublac, which is 10 minutes away.
To conclude the review, I would like to say that I most liked the chic and relaxed atmosphere of the Casino Barrière in La Baule. The establishment offers a great selection of games, although no poker table, but with lots of mechanical slot machines and a young audience. It will change your habits of playing the games.
Finally, I will give you one advice: have a cocktail at the bar, choose an attractive slot and enjoy your gaming session while admiring the beautiful view of the beach. You will then understand why this place is so nice!
