Casino review / Barrière de Blotzheim
01 Jan 2008
The small town of Blotzheim in the Haut-Rhin department of France is not far from Mulhouse and Belford. It is just 5 km away from the border of Germany and Switzerland, and is best known for its Alsatian culinary specialties and the architectural heritage, including a beautiful chapel and an interesting castle.
However, it is mainly for the medicinal reasons of the ferruginous and sulphurous waters of the Kabisbrunnen spring that many French and German tourists come to this village that has only 4,000 inhabitants.
Most of them come for the water, but some also come to visit the large casino! In fact, you can find the famous Barrière Casino in Blotzheim, which is one of the top 20 top grossing casinos in France with regards to turnover. But what does this complex offer? This is the question that I will answer in the following review about it.
An impressive game selection
The establishment opened in 2008 and has a certain peculiarity. Unlike most other casinos, it is not shrouded in mystery and closed off to the eyes of the public. On the contrary, it is open to the outside and has large bay windows and heated terraces. It combines modernity and tradition of the Barrière group, and is even placed in a rural environment.
The slot machines
The slot machines of the casino are available on weekdays from 10 am to 4 am, and on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays from 10 am to 6 am. The casino has a great selection of 245 devices from 1 cent to €2. Among them are:
- games with progressive jackpots,
- mechanical slot machines,
- latest generation video slots, among them some with 3D visual effects,
- video poker,
- the only multi-game devices in the region,
- an electronic English roulette with 32 seats from €2.50 per game.
The table games
With regards to the traditional table games you can find the largest selection of the entire region here. The friendly and warm atmosphere of the games room can be enjoyed Monday to Thursday from 4 pm to 4 am, Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays from 4 pm to 6 am, and on Sunday from 2 pm to 4 am. There is a total of 14 tables including:
- 8 tables with blackjack from €1 to €25,
- 5 tables with English roulette from €1 to €5,
- 1 table with ultimate poker starting from €5
There is also a poker room available in the establishment. It is open from Sunday to Thursday from 8 pm to 4 am, and on Fridays, Saturdays and eves of public holidays from 8 pm to 6 am. You can play at one table with omaha poker table 4 high and 4 tables with texas hold'em poker with buy-ins from €100 up to €1,000 every first Sunday of the month.
To conclude this section about the casino, I would like to mention that the casino is only accessible to adults (of 18 years of age or older), and only if they are not prohibited from gambling. It is also necessary to present a valid identity document (ID card, driving license or passport) upon entering.
Dining and drinking
As you can see above, there is a lot to do at the Barrière Casino in Blotzheim, as they offer a large selection of games. The good news is also, that you can enjoy the games even longer as you can also find a bar and a restaurant where you can take a break between your gaming sessions. However, it is regrettable that the establishment does not have a hotel.
The Players Bar is located in the heart of the games room and you can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with a drink or two. It has a great design and is also equipped with several screens showing sporting events and music videos. The bar also has a beautiful outdoor terrace of 200 m², and the service is fast allowing you to enjoy a drink in a pleasant atmosphere. There is also a menu with snacks from €2.50 and a variety of cocktails from €7.50.
The BlotZcafé also allows you to enjoy a nice meal in a nice environment at any time of the day. You can also enjoy live music shows every weekend. You can find the following types of food on the menu:
- complete meals,
- ice cream.
Unfortunately, the establishment does not offer any accommodation. However, this is not really a problem as such, as there are various hotels in the vicinity of the casino. These include:
- the Captain Hôtel ** starting from €70 per night,
- the Logis Hôtel Au Lion Rouge ** starting from €79 per night,
- the Airport Club Hôtel **** starting from €122 per night.
An interesting casino awaits you in the village of Blotzheim. The casino in this small border village has a particularly large game selection, especially regarding table games. There are also some interesting slot machines that are exclusive in the region, which is very positive as well.
