Review written by Sophie Couard, August 24, 2015.
The town of Luc-sur-Mer is located in the department of Calvados, in the heart of the Côte de Nacre, less than fifteen minutes away from Caen. It is a charming tourist town that attracts many visitors for the many sandy beaches and the many options for water-related activities. The town also offers some attractive places, including stunning cliffs, a menhir and a whale skeleton, as well as several interesting monuments, such as the Church of Saint-Quentin and the Fishermen's Pier. There is also a beautiful casino that has been designed by the architect Caen Auvray and was opened in 1956. In the next paragraphs you can find out what the casino has to offer in more detail.
115 slot machines and 3 game tables
The Tranchant Casino in Luc-sur-Mer is just ten minutes away from the car ferry and offers a breathtaking view of the sea. The atmosphere inside is simply exceptional setting, and the casino has a modern design. The casino is accessible to any adult aged at least 18 years who is not prohibited from gambling and can present a valid identity document.

Dining and drinking
The games are probably the main reason for visitors to go to the Tranchant Casino in Luc-sur-Mer, but this is not everything the establishment offers. To make the most of this attractive game selection, the complex also offers other facilities that allow you to enjoy a drink or a meal, allowing you to take a break from the games and relax. In the following paragraphs you can find out what the other services of the casino are.
The Bar in the slot machine room is open Sunday to Thursday from 10 am until 1 am from, until 2 am on Friday and until 3 am on Saturdays and eves of public holidays. The bar has a cosy and friendly design, and offers stunning views of the sea. It is the perfect place to relax with a drink. You can order from a large selection of hot and cold drinks with or without alcohol. There are many beers and different classic and original cocktails available on the menu, and there are also some sweet and savoury snacks on the menu if you get a little hungry.
The Aile is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12 pm to 2 pm for lunch and from 7 pm to 9.30 pm for dinner. It welcomes you in an atypical and modern design with a superb view on the sea and a terrace with 100 seats. You can order the following dishes, for example:
- smoked salmon, foie gras or seafood dishes as starters,
- fried mussels, beef tartare sea food platter as main courses,
- crème brûlée, soft chocolate cake or profiteroles as desserts.
You can play casino games, eat and have a drink at the Tranchant Casino in Luc-sur-Mer, but unfortunately, it is not possible to stay there overnight, as the establishment has no hotel. Fortunately, this is not a problem as the city has many hotels. Near the casino are:
- the Hôtel Restaurant Le Clos Normand starting from €101 per night,
- the Hôtel des Termes starting from €102 per night,
- the Hôtel Restaurant Le Saint Aubain starting from €111 per night.
In short, the Tranchant Casino in Luc-sur-Mer has a lot to offer. The establishment offers a nice atmosphere with a beautiful view of the sea, and the restaurants are also fantastic. However, it is the casino in particular, that will hold your attention, and in this regard, the players should also be satisfied with the selection of class casino games.
