Review written by Sophie Couard, December 8, 2015.

The Venetian in Las Vegas is an establishment that is a monument and a dream of a megalomaniac architect. I can tell you right away, I am a big fan of this hotel casino, and in my opinion, it is the most impressive, the most beautiful and the most incredible in all of Las Vegas, and even further.

The establishment has a strong theme that will truly amaze. When you stroll through the corridors you will be taken to Venice in Italy complete with replicas of the typical small streets, the Piazza San Marco and real canals on which you can be taken around in gondolas.

The casino is simply outstanding! In our review below, you can find out more about this prestigious resort that opened in May 1999.

Clarification

The Venetian is built very close to another resort next door called The Palazzo. Both establishments are owned by the Las Vegas Sands group of Sheldon Adelson, and the second was thought as a huge extension of the first, which then became the largest hotel in the world with over 7,000 rooms!

However, these two hotels are very different from each other, enough to warrant separate reviews. This is why I have decided to present them in two separate reviews; although I will sometimes refer to the Palazzo in this text as well.

A casino that has not been well designed

Of course, as it is obligatory in Las Vegas, The Venetian has a huge casino inside. The casino is open 24/7, and it can be accessed by everyone, regardless of their age. However, you must be of legal age to play, that is over the age of 21 years, as this is the law in the US!

The slot machines and sports betting options in this casino are a little disappointing, but fans of table games can enjoy a very wide range of games, as well as a large poker room.
In the next part of the review, I will talk more about this part of the casino.

A smell of orange

Before I list all the various games offered at the casino in The Venetian, I would like to mention that it has a smell of orange. Obviously, this is done to hide smell of tobacco. I know that some people do not like that at all. The smell is a little strong, and this creates a somewhat oppressive atmosphere. On the other hand, some people might enjoy smells of orange in the air. Personally, I did not even notice it before it was mentioned to me by someone else. So, you have been warned if your sense of smell is somewhat sensitive. And now, I will move on to talk a little more about the game selection in this famous establishment.

The slot machines

The casino at The Venetian has no less than 1,247 slot machines with possible bets from 1 cent to $5,000 per game! In short, any player should easily find a bet that suits them. However, you should know that the casino has a bad reputation for being the one offering the worst return to player payout rates at the Strip, and I must also say that the slots have never been very generous with me every time I went to play there.

The table games

The Venetian and the Palazzo offer a very wide range of 139 traditional table games:

  • blackjack,
  • blazing 7,
  • caribbean stud poker,
  • casino war,
  • craps,
  • crazy 4 poker,
  • fortune asia poker progressive,
  • fortune progressive pai gow poker,
  • imperial baccarat,
  • let it ride stud poker,
  • linked progressive jackpot,
  • mini baccarat,
  • no commission baccarat,
  • pai gow tiles,
  • roulette,
  • sic bo,
  • spanish 21,
  • three card poker,
  • ultimate texas hold'em.

There is also a dedicated VIP room with 20 game tables.

Poker

You can also find a beautiful 1,300 m² poker room near the main entrance. The room has 59 different tables and is one of the largest poker rooms in Las Vegas! You can play:

  • limit hold'em,
  • no limit hold'em,
  • omaha 8 or better,
  • pot limit omaha.

Race & sports book

The establishment also has a room that is dedicated to sports betting. Although it is not necessarily my cup of tea, I must say I was a bit disappointed. I found it relatively small compared to the overall size of the casino, and not particularly comfortable. I prefer the Palazzo.

Everything for an entertaining stay

Of course, the establishment is not just a casino. The operator also offers a wide range of activities other than gambling, and below I will give you more information about them.

A simply magnificent hotel

The Venetian is a luxury hotel with an absolutely unique architecture.

The exterior has been inspired by the Doge's Palace, and inside are some replicas of streets and squares of Venice. We can also find the famous canals that can be explored in gondolas with gondoliers who can even sing a few arias. It is really like you are in Italy! The impressive lobby has a hand-painted ceiling. It is a true work of art that could almost be compared to the Sistine Chapel!

Well, I am now going to stop talking about the stunning decor. Otherwise, I could continue endlessly, as there is so much to say about the wonders that you can see in this establishment, that deserves to be discovered more than any other casino in Las Vegas. That is all I have to say!

Besides the extension The Palazzo, the Venetian has 4,049 rooms in total, including:

  • Luxury Suites of 60 m²,
  • Bella Suites of 65 m²,
  • Rialto Suites of 102 m²,
  • Piazza Suites of 130 m²,
  • Prima Suites of 139 m²,
  • Renaisance Suites of 183 m²,
  • Penthouse Suites of 269 m².

Regardless of which room you choose, they are very large and beautifully decorated. You can enjoy super comfortable double beds, a living room with a sofa, armchairs, coffee table and desk but also a beautiful bathroom decorated in marble with an Italian shower, bath, double sink and a dressing table. In short, it is absolutely luxurious!

However, all this has a price, and no one ever said that the Venetian was cheap. You can expect to pay a lot, but I can guarantee that you will get your money's worth.

22 restaurants

It is the same with the restaurants. The restaurants at the Venetian are, where the you can find the best food in Las Vegas. However, if you do not want to spend too much money, you will not have much choice. If your budget allows it, you should know though, that it is hard to go wrong at the Venetian.
You can eat in excellent restaurants offering:

  • sea food (AquaKnox, Lobster ME, Sushi Samba and Zeffirino),
  • American (Delmonico Steakhouse, B&B Burger and Beer, Canyon Ranch Café and i♥burgers),
  • French (Bourchon and db Brasserie),
  • Italian (B&B Ristorante, Buddy V's Ristorante, Canaletto, Carlo's Bakery, Casanova, Grimaldi's, Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, Tintoretto Restaurant & Bakery and Trattoria Reggiano),
  • Asian (Noodle Asia and TAO Asian Bistro),
  • Brasserie (Grand Lux Café).

Many attractive leisure activities

In addition to playing, eating and sleeping, there are plenty of other things to do at The Venetian. You can enjoy:

  • 3 different swimming pools (Azure Luxury Pool, Venetian Pool Deck and TAO Beach) with a calm and relaxed atmosphere (if you want to party at the water this is not the ideal place),
  • the Canyon Ranch Spa (complete, large and luxurious, also with an excellent climbing wall,
  • the Madame Tussaud's wax museum,
  • many different wedding chapels,
  • a huge shopping centre (Grand Canal Shoppes) with mostly luxury stores,
  • a theatre,
  • 9 bars (Bellini Bar, Double Helix, Fusion Latin Mixology Bar, Laguna Champagne Bar, LAVO Lounge, Rockhouse, The Bourbon Room, The Label, The Lounge and the V Bar),
  • a nightclub (TAO Nightclub).

Overall I would say that The Venetian is a marvel that you should visit at least once in your life! It is an exciting experience to see the impressive and beautiful architecture, dine at the high-class restaurants, and to see the many attractions.

The actual casino will probably satisfy fans of table games, as it has a very wide range of games, and also offers a beautiful poker room. Unfortunately, the slot machines and the sports betting options are a little disappointing. And then there is the smell of orange in the air that may not appeal to everyone...

The hotel itself is excellent and conveniently located in the centre of the Strip near Caesars Palace, Treasure Island and the Wynn, which allows you to visit the main places of interest on the Las Vegas Boulevard on foot. However, the hotel is relatively expensive.
