Review written by Sophie Couard, on April 26, 2016.

The Orleans Hotel & Casino opened its doors during the construction boom in Las Vegas in December 1996. It is no surprise that with such a name, the establishment was inspired by the city of New Orleans. You can find in a French Quarter and various elements reminding of the famous Mardi Gras carnival. Unfortunately, the theme is not very well implemented, and many other casinos in Las Vegas have managed to do a better job. However, I do not want to dwell on this too much, as the casino has many strong points as well. Although it is not directly located on the famous Strip, it is still very close to the centre of the action. It is less than 2 km away and even offers a free shuttle service. The rates are also very competitive and the resort offers many other services. You can find out more about this alternative to the hotels on the Strip in our review about it.

A comprehensive game selection

Let me begin this review with an introduction about the actual games room that covers 12,500 m². The casino is accessible to everyone, regardless of age. However, if you want to play the games you will have to be an adult, that is to say, be at least 21 years, as this is the law in the United States.

The slot machines

Fans of slot machines will be happy to hear that the casino has over 2,800 slot machines with bets from 1 cent to $25. Among them are:

  • games with progressive jackpots,
  • mechanical slot machines,
  • video slots,
  • video poker,
  • video keno,
  • multi-game devices,
  • electronic roulette games.

Some of these are popular games, such as:

  • games inspired by famous licences (Avatar – Treasures of Pandora, Britney Spears or Bejeweled 3D),
  • many cult games (Cleopatra, Da Vinci Diamonds and Gigamic 7s).

The table games

If you prefer traditional table games you can find 60 tables with:

  • American roulette,
  • craps,
  • blackjack,
  • three card poker,
  • single deck 21,
  • double deck super fun 21,
  • ultimate texas hold'em,
  • let it ride,
  • pai gow poker,
  • baccarat.

Poker

There is also a large poker room with 35 tables where you can play games against other players in tournaments and cash games. These different variations of poker are available:

  • texas hold'em,
  • 7 card stud,
  • omaha high-lo.

Keno

There is also a small keno lounge with 30 seats that is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. News games are launched every 5 minutes. The results of these games are also broadcast on televisions in the hotel rooms and in some of the restaurants.

Sports betting

The race & sports betting area can accommodate up to 125 people, and is equipped with 40 screens and around 100 comfortable seats. There is also a designated area for non-smokers.

Many other things to do

Obviously, the casino is not the only service offered by the Orleans Hotel & Casino. The resort also offers many other things to do, accommodation, dining, drinking and relaxation.

A hotel

The resort has 185 rooms and suites, and you can choose from the following rooms:

  • a deluxe room of 42 m²,
  • a premium room of 42 m²,
  • an executive suite of 83 m²,
  • the Louisiana suite of 125 m²,
  • the New Orleans suite of 167 m²,
  • the presidential suite of 232m².

Overall, the rooms are very spacious and have excellent beds, as well as a fully equipped bathroom. I also liked the design of the rooms. But in any case, it is also the rates of the rooms that will make you consider the hotel, as they are very low considering the service the hotel offers. In short, you can expect an excellent value for money.

Restaurants

You can also find a great selection of restaurants for all tastes and budgets, such as:

  • gourmet restaurants (The Prime Rib Loft and Alder & Birch),
  • mid-range restaurants (Big Al's Oyster Bar, Courtyard Cafe, French Market Buffet, Ondori Asian Kitchen and T.G.I. Friday's),
  • fast food places for snacks (Fuddruckers, Sbarro, Subway, Baskin Robbins, Rocky Mountain Chocolate, Java Vegas Coffee and the Bowling Snack Bar).

Leisure and wellness facilities

If you want to relax, take a break or be entertained, you can visit:

  • a theatre with 850 seats,
  • 18 cinema theatres (Century Orleans 18)
  • two bars (Brendan's Irish Bar and Bourbon Street Cabaret),
  • a souvenir shop,
  • a bowling alley,
  • an arcade,
  • a play area for children,
  • an outdoor swimming pool,
  • a gym,
  • a spa,
  • a beauty salon.

In short, the Orleans Hotel & Casino does not have the best of themes in Las Vegas, and the establishment is not necessarily very good, although it is not very far from the Strip, but it makes up for it with several advantages: the casino has a large and diverse game selection, there are plenty of great entertainment and leisure facilities, and the value for money is excellent. It can be an interesting place for some players.
