Review written by Sophie Couard, on June 14, 2016.
Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan, a province in the heart of Canada, and it is a pleasant and very green city. It has the Wascana Center, a huge urban park (one of the largest in North America) with a size of 9.3 km² that is built around a lake. It is not the only attraction of this city that attracts the interest of visitors, some others are the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the RCMP Heritage Center, the Regina Plains Museum, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and the Saskatchewan Science Center. There is also a large casino in the city, and you can find out more about it in the rest of this review.
Playing inside an old train station with an impressive atmosphere
The Casino Regina was opened on January 26, 1996, and it welcomes visitors in an old train station building, that was built between 1911 and 1912. You can enjoy a very nice atmosphere with impressive decoration and a very high ceiling while enjoying games in the casino. The casino is open every day (except on the 24th and 25th of December) from 9 am to 4 am to anyone aged 19 years or older, and it is necessary to present valid identification.
The slot machines
The Casino Regina offers a very nice game selection and you can find over 1,050 devices from 1 cent to $5. Among these are:
- games inspired by famous brands, such as The Flintstones and Big Bang Theory,
- traditional slot machines with mechanical reels,
- video slot machines using the latest technology,
- video poker,
- games where you can win a progressive jackpot,
- electronic roulette games,
- electronic blackjack games.
The table games
The selection of traditional table games includes around 30 tables at which you can play the following games:
- texas hold'em bonus,
- three card poker,
I would like to say that the Casino Regina has one of the most beautiful poker rooms in the west of Canada, and it is decorated with magnificent stained-glass windows showing kings, queens and jacks. You can test our skills against other players on a dozen tables which are available every day from noon to 4 am in the morning.
Dining, drinking and entertainment
In addition to the nice game selection the Casino Regina also offers other facilities that allow you to take a break between the games and relax. You can spend a whole day at the establishment and enjoy a nice dinner, a snack or a drink. Unfortunately, it is not possible to stay in the casino overnight, as it does not offer a hotel.
The Last Spike Restaurant is open from Sunday to Thursday from 9 am to 10.30 pm, and on Friday and Saturday from 9 am to midnight. The restaurant has a wonderful design that reminds of an old train wagon. Depending on the time of day, you can order:
- breakfast including pancakes, omelettes and toasts,
- lunch with salads, soups and burgers,
- dinner including lasagne, meats and nachos.
You can even enjoy a brunch on Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm, which costs $20.
A sandwich bar
Would you like to have a drink between the games, or are you a little hungry? There is no need to leave the casino to fulfil your desires. The CR Express is located in the heart of the casino, and it offers a large selection of hot and cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. There are also hot dogs, nachos and other types of snacks on the snack menu.
You can take a break and relax in a nice lounge atmosphere in the CPR, which is open the same times as the casino, from 9 am to 4 am. You can also go to the Whistle Stop Café that has a design of a train station. The bar is open from 9 am to 2 am, and it is located in the main hall of the casino.
As mentioned above, the Casino Regina does not offer any accommodation, but this is not really a big problem, as there are a lot of hotels in the city. The ones closest to the casino are:
- the Delta Regina,
- the Wingate by Wyndham,
- the Comfort Inn Regina,
- the Days Inn on Eastgate.
In short, the Casino Regina is an excellent casino. You can play in a fantastic atmosphere and enjoy a large game selection. What more could you ask for?
