Review written by Sophie Couard, on March 16, 2016.

Although it is surely one of the largest gambling complexes in northern Europe, the Radisson Blu Casino in Copenhagen is not very impressive, as it has only about 150 slot machines and twenty table games. However, there are some other points speaking in its favour, such as many additional activities with different restaurants, bars, a fitness centre and a 4-star hotel with very high standards.

The location is also very interesting. In fact, it is located in the Amager district of Copenhagen, very close to the famous independent town of Christiania. This district has several attractions, although it is not highly regarded by the locals, some even boast of never having set foot there. However, it has the airport, the Royal Golf Centre, the National Aquarium of Denmark (the largest in Northern Europe with more than 20,000 specimens in 7 million litres of water), a beautiful artificial beach next to a long promenade and even a farm. This neighbourhood offers everything needed for a small country, and it is only a 10-minute metro ride away from the centre!

So, let us see now what the famous casino has to offer.

A relatively small casino

Let me start this review by looking at the subject that interests players the most: the casino. One thing first: the games room is not very big, it is only 1,500 m². However, it has a modern and classy decoration that I liked very much. What I did not like at all was that you have to pay an admission of 90 DKK (about €12).

The slot machines

There are approximately 150 slot machine devices in the Radisson Blu Casino in Copenhagen. Among them are:

  • mechanical slot machines with 3 reels,

  • video slot machines with 5 reels,

  • video poker games.

All games offer a very wide selection of possible bets, as it is possible to bet from 1 Kroner up to 200 DKK (roughly €27) per game. Many devices also give you the chance to win a progressive jackpot. In fact, there are 42 progressive jackpot games, some of which are connected to the famous Casino Danmark Jackpot that was established in 2005 and has a minimum amount of 2,000,000 DKK (approximately €270,000).

Oh yes, I also would like to mention that the payout rates to the players are very interesting, and they average 97% (almost like in an online casino, which is truly outstanding!).

The table games

Fans of traditional games will be happy to hear that there are around 20 tables with the following games:

  • 5 tables with blackjack,
  • 9 tables with American roulette,
  • 1 table with rocket 7,
  • 3 tables with punto banco.

Poker

There is also a poker room in the casino that has 6 tables where you can play:

  • texas hold'em,

  • omaha,

  • ultimate texas hold'em.

You can play tournaments from 8 pm, or cash games from 8.15 pm.

The Danske spil space

The Casino in Copenhagen has a partnership with Danske spil that allows them to offer the products of the group in the casino games room. There is a special area for sports betting (such as football or horse racing), and you can also watch live competitions. You can also play lotto, oddset and DanToto.

Let me finish this part of the review with mentioning that the casino is open every day from 2 pm to 4 am, and only adults are permitted to enter (the minimum age is 18 years), only if they are not prohibited, and it is mandatory to present a valid ID.

Accommodation, dining and drinking

Although the actual games room is not particularly impressive, the Casino Radisson Blu in Copenhagen offers many additional services, such as a 4-star hotel, several restaurants and bars.

A hotel

When you are in the lobby of the complex, you can find the casino on the right and the hotel on the left. The hotel is operated by the Radisson Blu group and follows the strict standards of the brand: it is huge, luxurious and has a beautiful gym.

During my stays I noticed that you can come across different types of rooms. For example, some offer an antique décor with wood while other rooms are more modern with an Ikea style.

In any case, the rooms are clean, good-sized and they have good bedding. However, the furniture is sometimes a little dated, and the hotel could do with a refurbishment. Some equipment has aged quite a lot.

The staff are typical for larger hotels. They are efficient and polite, but not especially warm. I cannot conclude this section without mentioning the absolutely superb breakfast with great sweet and savoury choices. There is also plenty of fresh fruit and juice. However, the breakfast is served in a very noisy room.

Restaurants

You can discover several different restaurants at the establishment without having to leave it. You can find:

  • a Thai restaurant (the Blue Elephant),
  • a Japanese restaurant (the Kyoto),
  • an international restaurant (the Mamas & Papas).

Bars

If you want to relax between the games or enjoy a nightcap before going to bed you can visit one of the bars:

  • the Bar Bus Stop in the lobby which is open from 10 am to 1 am,
  • the Bar Red 7 in the casino which is open from 2 pm to 3.45 am.

Both bars have a warm and welcoming atmosphere and offer a large selection of drinks.

In short, the Casino Radisson Blu in Copenhagen has a nice (but somewhat dated) hotel, excellent restaurants and good bars. Unfortunately, the games room is relatively small.

This would be a good summary of the review, but it would be a little hastily if I do not take into consideration the many qualities of the actual casino. It is one of the largest in northern Europe and the slot machines offer a very high payout rate for a land based establishment. There are also many progressive jackpot games. I also enjoyed the Rocket 7 table (a dice game inspired by craps, which is not very widespread), and the Danske spil space should please fans of those games too.

The casino may be small but it offers an excellent choice of games. This is surely a complex worth visiting.
