Review written by Sophie Couard, November 23, 2015.

I love the MGM Macau! This I just have to say right away!

Everything is monumental, even the entrance with the huge lion statue that welcomes you. Once you are inside, you can discover the great square in a Portuguese style and a gigantic aquarium that goes from the ground to the ceiling. In short, it is a simply amazing establishment.

This impressive resort itself was opened on December 18, 2007 as the second Western casino in Macau, after the opening of the neighbour Wynn in September 2006. The spectacular hotel offers many reasons that would warrant a visit, and I will tell you more about it in this review about the casino below.

420 games tables and more than 900 slot machines

Of course, what interests us most here is surely the casino. That is why I will start this review by talking about this very subject.

First, I would like to mention that I have noticed that despite the wide range of traditional games and slots, it never feels cramped at the MGM Macau, which is not necessarily the case in other places in Macau.

The decoration is very modest. It is limited to only a few rows of chandeliers lining the ceiling. Apart from that, there is not much to see other than of course rows of tables and slot machines. Customers are not there for sightseeing, they are there to play the games.

One floor for normal players and one for VIPs

The MGM Macau has two levels for gambling on more than 20,000 m². The ground floor is for normal players, and the first floor is entirely dedicated to VIP players and high rollers.
They have over 200 game tables that can have very high minimum table limits, and they often reach $1,000 or $3,000, which should please most of the high rollers, as it leaves a lot of room for stakes.

If you are a more cautious player or you have a smaller budget you can visit the ground floor where there are more than 200 tables waiting for you as well. The limits are more reasonable here, but still relatively high, as the minimum is often $100 or $200 dollars.

The slot machines

On the ground floor you can find all the slot machines of the establishment. There are no less than 900 different devices starting from 1 cent to 10 dollars. Among them you can find:

  • mechanical slot machines with 3 reels,
  • video slots with 5 reels,
  • different variants of video poker.

The table games

The establishment offers a total of 420 traditional table games with:

  • baccarat,
  • commission free baccarat,
  • three card baccarat,
  • blackjack,
  • caribbean stud poker,
  • three card poker,
  • craps,
  • roulette,
  • sic bo,
  • casino war.

As you can see, most major Western classics are available, except for texas hold 'em poker. Even three card poker is relatively rare in Macau. In short, the games are really fun.

Everything for a pleasant visit

Of course, the MGM Macau is not only offering casino games to attract customers. The establishment also offers a wide range of additional services, and you can find out more about them below.

600 hotel rooms

The establishment has a 35-story luxury hotel with 600 amazing rooms. Among those are:

  • the Grand Rooms of 48 m² size and the Grand Studios with 54 to 66 m² located at floors 5 to 17,
  • the Grandes Suites of 150 m² size on levels 20 to 28,
  • the Villas of 220 to 380 m² on levels 31 and 32.

Regardless of your choice, the rooms are always large, modern and beautiful well decorated, and very clean. The bedding is very comfortable and you can even get the housekeeping service at night! The bathroom is simply amazing and has a nice jacuzzi tub, a separate shower and two sinks. I was also surprised and pleased to discover that there is a TV in the mirror that allows you, for example to watch the news while you get dressed!

In the end, I must admit that this hotel is really beautiful, both from the inside and outside. The hotel is filled with artwork from Salvador Dali and Dale Chihuly. And then there is also the reconstruction of a beautiful Portuguese square just near the lobby, which I mentioned in the introduction. The hotel is especially beautiful at night, when lights illuminate the facades and terraces. It looks simply magical!

Another important thing is that from the moment you enter the lobby, you will be greeted with a very warm welcome and a friendly smile from the professional staff who do everything they can to ensure you have a pleasant stay.

It is a hotel that I really liked, whenever I went there.

5 restaurants and 3 bars

Sleeping at the MGM Macau is very nice, but the food is an equally pleasant experience. You have a choice of:

  • a prestigious French restaurant called Aux Beaux Arts,
  • a self service buffer with international culinary delights called Rossio,
  • a Cantonese mid-range restaurant called Imperial Court,
  • a high-class Cantonese restaurant called Grand Imperial Court,
  • an inexpensive Chinese restaurant called Square Eight.

If you just want a drink or snack you have the choice of:

  • the Pastry Bar that offers a large choice of pastries,
  • the Lion's Bar that hosts frequent live concerts,
  • the Aba Bar offering a lounge atmosphere.

Spa, fitness centre, swimming pool and shopping centre

In addition to playing, eating and sleeping, the MGM Macau also offers you to:

  • relax at the Six Senses Spa (one of the few in town with a hammam and even a laconium),
  • do sports in a very large gym, that is complete and totally free,
  • enjoy an outdoor pool with a beautiful view of the sea and the island of Taipa,
  • go shopping in a large 18,000 m² mall offering a beautiful range of luxury stores.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the MGM Macau is a very classy establishment. It easily ranks among the best casinos in Macau and has a good selection of bars and restaurants, modern and spacious rooms, a great general architecture, but also the perfect location between the Wynn, the Mandarin and the Arc.

The casino is simply great! I enjoyed the many Chinese classic games, but as player from a Western country, I greatly enjoyed being able to play most classic games that I love. There is even a wide selection of slot machines, and a few tables with three card poker, which is not very common in Macau.
