Review written by Sophie Couard, February 18, 2016.

The hotel-casino Harrah's in Reno is not one of the best establishments of the Caesars Entertainment group. It is a safe bet, but it will not impress many people. It must be said that the establishment is not new, it opened in 1937, which means that it suffers from this old age, although a series of renovations were conducted in 2011.

In any case, it is still a nice complex that fulfils its purpose perfectly. You can play in a nice casino, stay in a hotel with good value for money, dine in seven different restaurants and enjoy the services of several leisure facilities.

A fact is however, that you can do better elsewhere. And as you may have guessed, it is better to visit Vegas or Macau for a casino stay, and not the small town of Reno.

The casino

Let us start this review in style, and talk about the main attraction for players at the Harrah's in Reno right away. It is of course the casino. On more than 5,500 m² it offers a nice selection of slots, lots of table games, a keno room and an area dedicated to sports betting.

The slot machines

There are a total of over 700 devices available. Among them are:

  • traditional mechanical slot machines with 3 reels,
  • modern video slots with the latest technology,
  • popular games, such as Buffalo, Sphinx 3D, Zuma, Dungeons & Dragons...,
  • slot machines that give you the chance to win a progressive jackpot, for example the famous Megabucks,
  • video poker in different variants,
  • video keno.

The table games

You can find over 40 tables with traditional games. Among them are:

  • blackjack from $10,
  • craps from $10,
  • American roulette from $5,
  • baccarat from $10 to $1,000,
  • let it ride from $5,
  • pai gow poker from $10,
  • three card poker from $5,
  • four card poker from $5.

Keno

Every last Saturday of January, April, July and October, the Harrah's casino in Reno organises classic keno tournaments that are very popular with the players.

Sports betting

There is also a race and sports betting area in the casino. You can bet your money on a wide selection of sporting events and watch the competitions on various large and small screens and enjoy the nice atmosphere in the room.
Before finishing this section, remember that it is always the law in Nevada that all these game rooms can be accessed by anyone. However, if you want to play the games you have to be an adult, that is to say be at least 21 years or age, as this is the law in the United States.

Other services

In addition to many different ways to gamble your money, Harrah's in Reno also offers guests many other things to do. You can find out more about the other services in the rest of this review.

The hotel

There are 928 rooms and suites available in the hotel. They are shared between the original Harrah's hotel and another tower that was formerly the Hampton Inn. The prices are quite reasonable, as the cheapest room starts from $36 per might and $257 for the most expensive.

Overall, there is not much to complain about the hotel. The rooms are well equipped with good quality appliances and furniture, and they are also very large. Some minor remarks though: despite the renovations, the decoration is not always new and this can be felt. Fortunately, the feeling passes.

Restaurants

When it comes to dining the resort is surely one of the best of the Reno casino hotels, as it offers 7 different restaurants with:

  • an all you can eat buffet (Carvings Buffet),
  • two upscale restaurants (Harrah's Steak House and Catering),
  • two mid-range restaurants (Ichiban and Hash House A Go Go),
  • three fast food places (Starbucks, Joy Luck Noodle Bar and Quiznos).

Recreational facilities

If you want to have some fun aside from gambling, you can enjoy the following facilities at the Harrah's:

  • a lounge bar (Sapphire Lounge),
  • a theatre,
  • a hair dresser and nail salon,
  • a spa,
  • a swimming pool,
  • wedding chapels.

In conclusion I can say that it is a nice little hotel-casino that I liked a lot. It is certainly not the establishment of the century, but is that really a problem? Not for me anyway. In any case, I had a good time here. The casino is very large and offers a good selection of games. The hotel offers good value for money and the restaurants are very nice too, especially the all you can eat self service buffet.
