Review written by Sophie Couard, May 27, 2016.
The town of Sainte-Maxime borders the northern shore of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, and is protected from the mistral by the forest hills of the Massif des Maures. The town has a great location in the department of Var, and it is a popular tourist destination since 1922. Besides the beautiful beaches, the town offers an interesting architectural heritage, including a beautiful church with a splendid marble altar from the 18th century, the Chateau des Tourelles, the Villa Bellevue and the Tour Carré des Dames that was erected in the 16th century and is classified as one of the most important monuments in France today.
The resort town has always been very family friendly and paid close attention to offer entertainment for children and adults. You can also find a large casino in the town, the Barrière Casino in Sainte-Maxime, which is the main subject of this review.
Play in a fantastic atmosphere
The famous resort next to the sea is a must see when visiting the city. It offers a large casino that can be accessed by everyone over the age of 18, who is not prohibited from gambling and able to present a valid ID at the entrance.
The slot machines
The slot machines are available Sunday to Thursday from 9.30 am until 3 am, and until 4 am on Friday and Saturday. You can discover the unique concept of the slot machine room, which is an open space with a retractable roof which allows you to enjoy the sun during the day and the stars at night. Regarding the games, the casino offers over 130 devices from 1 cent to €2, among them:
- traditional slot machines with mechanical reels,
- latest generation video slots with digital screens,
- video poker in many different variants,
- games where you can win a progressive jackpot,
- an electronic English roulette.
The table games
The room with the traditional table games is open Sunday to Thursday from 9 pm until 3 am, and until 4 am on Friday and Saturday, and you can enjoy the games with a splendid view over the bay of Saint-Tropez. The room is facing the sea and offers an exceptional atmosphere and a private terrace that overlooks the beach. There are 6 tables with:
Other services aside from the casino
Like any good establishment of the Barrière group, the Casino in Sainte-Maxime also offers additional services in addition to the great game selection. You can enjoy a nice meal, have a relaxing drink or be entertained by a nice show. Unfortunately, the establishment does not have a hotel.
The B Bar is open every day from noon to 3 am, and it is located in the heart of the slot machines room. It is the perfect place to share a drink and take a break between the games. You can enjoy a large selection of hot and cold alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, as well as a lot of cocktails and sweet and savoury snacks if you are a little hungry.
The Côté Plage is open daily from 12 pm to 2.30 pm for lunch and from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm for dinner. The restaurant offers an inventive cuisine that you can enjoy with a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. There are different set menus available starting from €10 for a single dish and up to €26.50 for a starter, main course and dessert. You can also order from the a la carte menu, and you can find the following dishes:
- foie gras, a tart or shrimp salad as starters,
- pâtes, salads, meats or fish as main courses,
- tiramisu, crème brûlée or a tartelette as desserts.
The establishment also allows you to enjoy different kinds of shows, such as concerts, plays or shows with comedians. In short, there is a varied program that appeals to a large audience.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to stay overnight at the casino, as it does not have its own hotel. Fortunately, there are many hotels in the town of Sainte-Maxime. Close to the casino are:
- the Petit Prince *** starting from €90 per night,
- the Hôtel Les Santolines *** starting from €101 per night,
- the Résidence Pierre et Vacances Les Platanes *** starting from €139 per night,
- the Belle Aurore **** starting from €173 per night.
The Barrière Casino in Sainte-Maxime has many strong points about it. It has the perfect location facing the sea, which makes it worthwhile to visit the place. Then there is also an open space with the slot machines and the table games room offers a nice view. Overall, the game selection is great!
