Review written by Sophie Couard, August 24, 2015.
I like the . Although, it is definitely not my favourite one, or one that I would suggest to visit when in the area, we must still say that the casinos on the Mediterranean coast, between Marseille and Menton are among the best casinos in France. This means that the competition is very strong in this area. However, the casinos manages to hold the attention of the players, and allows you to have a good time; and that is the most important thing, wouldn't you agree?
175 slots, La boule, roulette and blackjack, but no poker
Like in any good casino, the game selection is what is most important in a casino, and what tempts players the most. I will start my review about the Casino Barrière in Saint-Raphaël by talking about the games the casino offers.
The slot machines
The slot machines are available every day from 9 am to 3 am and Saturdays or old public holidays until 4 am. There are 175 slot machines offering betting ranges from 1 cent to €5. There are:
one electronic English roulette,
video poker machines,
video slots with 5 reels,
mechanical slot machines with 3 reels.
The table games
The table games room is a comfortable place with a nice atmosphere that is open every day from 9 pm. You can play the following games there:
La boule 2000,
However, the establishment does not have any poker tables, which might upset fans of Texas Hold'em or Omaha poker.
As always, I will end this part of the review about the game selection by mentioning that it is necessary in France to show a valid ID when accessing the games room, as they are strictly reserved for people over 18, who are not restricted from entering casinos.
Only one bar-restaurant
The game selection is of course the main attraction of the Casino Barrière in Saint-Raphaël, but the establishment also offers other related services, although these are not many, as there is no hotel or a theatre, there is only one restaurant and a bar.
The Café Barrière is a very nice place with a dynamic and friendly team. Even when the restaurant is crowded, the service is still fast. The menu is varied, fresh and tasty. The food is also served in original containers, but I will leave the surprise to you.
However, the restaurant can be a little noisy because the bar-restaurant is right next to the games room. This also means that access is restricted to adults only, as indicated above.
Unfortunately, there is no accommodation available, but you can find a lot of nice hotels in the city, such as the hotel de Flore, which is a 3-star hotel with rooms from €48 a night.
A friendly atmosphere and a nice smokers lounge
A range of games and a the consistent quality of the bar-restaurant is not bad, but we would also like to talk about the general atmosphere in the Casino Barrière in Saint-Raphaël.
First, I would like to say that the surroundings are very nice and give a nice view of the sea. It is a nice place, but it could do with a few touch-ups to be even nicer. It appears a little dated, but the decor is still very nice and the lights are pleasant.
I also enjoyed the reception with the very friendly staff who also help the players. Similarly, the general cleanliness of the establishment should also be mentioned, as it is always clean. However, it can happen that the air conditioning is a bit too cold in summer for some people.
I would like to finish with by mentioning that there is also a room for smokers, that has lots of slot machines. I always appreciate it when the establishments offer a room like this, as it allows me to enjoy a cigarette while I play the games. However, the non-smokers may not be happy to hear that some of the best slot machines can be found only in this room. Too bad for them...
An excellent establishment
As you may have read at the start of the review, the Casino Barrière in Saint-Raphaël has some great advantages. If you now want to visit the place, it is located at the Square de Gand.
You can access it:
by car via different routes, such as the famous national road 7, the RN 98 and the A8 motorway,
by train via the train station of Saint-Raphaël,
by plane via the airport of Cannes-Mandelieu, which is 25 km away, or the international airport of Nice-Côte d'Azur, which is 70 km away.
In conclusion, I would like to say that it is a shame that the establishment does not have any poker tables. It also does not offer many other services other than bar and a restaurant. Nevertheless, the Casino Barrière in Saint Raphael is still interesting for many players.
I enjoyed its game selection, and especially being able to play in a nice and large smoking room! The restaurant is also very good, and the general atmosphere is very friendly.
In short, my game sessions at this casino have always been pleasant, which is why I like the Casino Barrière in Saint-Raphaël!
